The natural beauty of the rolling northern Michigan terrain along with a well manicured course from tee to green puts The Nightmare on the map of Michigan’s “must play” golf destinations.

  • I usually play The Nightmare once or twice a year and it is always awesome. I highly recommend playing here if you get a chance. The layout is fantastic. Every hole is a good hole and no two holes are alike. There are some huge elevation changes, great green complexes, and overall picturesque holes. It is simply one of the better layouts around. The greens are always in great shape. They are typically firm and fast, but not unfair in any way. The price is always reasonable, even at peak times, and the beer policy makes it an even better deal. Just a great golf course.

The Nightmare, opened in August 2003, is a premier layout, and the sister course to The Dream, creating a one-two combination that puts this area on the map of Michigan’s “must play” golf destinations.

The Nightmare Golf Course in Michigan is an 18-hole paradise for golfers of all skill levels. Despite its intimidating name, this course offers a “dreamlike” experience, boasting some of the largest fairways and expansive undulating greens in the region. Located in the picturesque town of West Branch, Michigan, The Nightmare Golf Course is a must-play destination for both local players and golf tourists seeking a premier challenge amid stunning natural surroundings.

This is one beautiful golf course. The gorgeous landscape includes thoughtfully designed flower beds, rock retaining and draining structures on tees and on cart paths where necessary, and the natural beauty of the rolling northern Michigan terrain.
Signature features include generously sculpted bent grass fairways and huge, mildly undulating greens that though relatively new, roll quick and true and are an absolute joy to putt on.

Our W.B. Aframe house is located at the entrance of The Dream Golf Course and is one mile east of The Nightmare Golf Course. It’s the perfect getaway for golfers!

In the winter months, this house is perfect for guests who love to snowmobile. It is located less than 5 miles from snowmobile and ATV trails in St. Helen.

  • This course is fantastic both for an experienced golfer and beginner alike. The course has great elevation changes, with greens that roll very true. Great variety of holes, with water and sand on many of them. We played on a Sunday morning and pace was great, we were able to finish in under 4 hours. Anyone headed towards West Branch should stop in for a round.

  • Rolling up to the course felt like going to a resort. Beautifully maintained. First time here today and I can’t wait to come back. Free range balls for warm up. Great carts and cart paths. Every hole has its challenge. Greens are fast and big. Sand traps are soft and free of large stones. Bathrooms on the course are clean and every 3-4 holes. Well spaced out tee times.

  • The Nightmare fit me and my son to a tee. The very scenic, hilly course was beautifully maintained. We both like long par 5’s and big firm and fast greens with lots of bunkers but generous fairways. Its all about the golf here and the staff was very friendly and welcoming…a great time, thank you “Nightmare”!

  • Played after some heavy rain in the morning and for 99% of the course, you wouldn’t know it had even rained. Course was in excellent shape. Love the layout. Don’t let the name scare you, it’s very friendly for all skill levels. Very picturesque. Friendly staff, great driving range, excellent value for the money. Don’t skip The Nightmare and The Dream if you’re in the area!

  • Playing The Nightmare was an awesome experience. My son and I didn’t mind the two-hour drive one bit—it was worth every minute. This course rivals any we have closer to home and might even top them. I’d go back in a heartbeat, even on a weekday. The conditions were impressive—the fairways were pristine, smooth, and nearly untouched by divots. Hats off to the team keeping this place in such excellent shape!

  • Played The Nightmare for the first time today after driving by it on the freeway for years. One of the most aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable courses I’ve ever played. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and the course was immaculate. All courses should be designed like this course. Generous fairways and not the least bit tricked up. Even though I live 90 miles away, will be playing here a few times a year in the future.

  • Just like the Dream this course is awesome. If i had to choose, I would pick both. They are located right along I75 so they are a breeze to access. Greens were true and putts were fast. This is a must play when in the area.

  • This course, along with its sister course The Dream, are always our favorite to play. The fairways, greens, and sand traps are always in immaculate shape. We are always able to play in under 4 hrs due to the spread out tee times. The staff is very courteous and even provide a cooler with ice on the cart for your beverages. These courses are the model all other courses should emulate.

  • Took my son, who just discovered golf and can’t get enough, to The Nightmare for his 25th birthday. What a spectacular course. The layout, the setting, the conditions, the staff, all are top notch. We noted how pristine the tee boxes were with not a broken tee to be found. We then concluded it is because they’re as soft as the greens. I fear my son is now spoiled and all other courses back home in Cincinnati will now pale in comparison. We will be back with friends for certain.
